Academics

Trinity College School's challenging academic programme over four years of high school emphasizes a liberal arts philosophy. Students are engaged equally in the arts and sciences during their first two years of study. In Years 3 and 4, students begin to specialize and many take Advanced Placement courses.

Small classes ensure that each student receives personal attention and the opportunity to develop positive relationships with their teachers. The staff to student ratio is 8:1. TCS prides itself on four great strengths in the academic programme: our course of study or curriculum, our facilities, our schedule and our faculty.

Athletics

TCS has a long tradition of school spirit and good sportsmanship. TCS supports 18 different competitive teams that compete against other independent schools in Canada and often in the United States. Most sports include a varsity or senior team and a younger competitive team for students in Years 1 and 2. The TCS campus includes two gymnasiums, an indoor pool, three international squash courts, an indoor ice rink, nine full sized playing fields, four tennis courts and a state of the art workout facility. Beyond our competitive sports, the TCS athletic department offers a recreational programme.

Arts

The study of the fine arts is one of the cornerstones of an excellent education and one that we strongly believe is central to leading a rich and fulfilling life. It is our goal to graduate students with creative, passionate, involvement and understanding of the cultural life of their communities as well as refined skills in one or more arts disciplines. In addition to a rigorous academic fine arts programme, the breadth and depth of co-curricular arts programming has kept pace with the demands and creative energies of those who dare to dream.

Unique Programs or Strengths of School

Electron Microscope and Telescope

An electron microscope with the capability to magnify specimens by 100,000 times is the newest member of the scientific community at TCS. The electron microscope allows students a chance to view scientific objects of study from in a variety of ways they were never able to before. The microscope sheds new light in biology, chemistry and physics. Students can analyze the minute parts or organelles within a cell, magnify crystals in chemistry and study minerals in both Earth and space sciences.

The Anne Currie Observatory and telescope are used by TCS students for a variety of space-oriented projects. Students can make high-resolution maps of the moon and capture images of major nebulas, star clusters, and planetary images. They can also track comets and search for asteroids. In addition to incorporating the technology into student work, the telescope will be open frequently for star gazing events to amateur astronomers and members of the community.

Laptop Programme

At TCS, education technology begins with the laptop. All students are required to have a School-sanctioned laptop, which the Information Services department will load with all necessary applications at the outset of the year. Furthermore, students are taught how to use this "toolbox" wisely and effectively in an Introduction to Information Technology course.

Travel Education

Building on the success of the past three years, Trinity College School was again proud to send forty-eight students to study a variety of courses in Spain, France and England. Travel Education with our School is a opportunity where students can earn an Ontario Secondary School credit while travelling and discovering a new culture. They travel and live within a safe and structured environment chaperoned by the School’s chaperones and faculty.

Our curriculum is taught by our faculty and students are presented with challenging and creative course material which relates to each location’s scenery and sites. In addition, the School’s qualified residential staff supervise students outside of academic time, including during evening study and on excursions.
