Academics

Webb's academic program is designed to turn intellectually keen boys and girls into highly educated, honor-bound young men and women. Our academic program is rich in intellectual rigor and unbounded in its opportunities for students to achieve the highest level. All our graduates matriculate to four year universities in the U.S. and elsewhere, and most will attend universities and colleges ranked in the top 10% of the country. With 21 Advanced Placement courses offered and a wide-range of honors level courses, the curriculum has the intent of preparing our students to become life-long learners.

Athletics

Webb believes that students who develop an interest in sports, teamwork and the outdoors when they are young live healthier, more satisfying lives. With 40 teams in 13 sports, there is a wide selection available for Webb students to choose from, and participate in at any level. Extensive athletic facilities are at hand, including a newly renovated gymnasium and fitness center, wrestling facilities, a state-of-the-art track and field, cross-country course, baseball and softball diamonds, soccer fields, 6 tennis courts, and a 25-yard outdoor pool. California's climate and Webb's location are uniquely suited for that athlete who wishes to take full advantage of his/her talents. Most of Webb's athletic teams offer opportunities for the beginner as well as the skilled athlete. Webb's teams have consistently qualified for state-level competitions.

Arts

Webb offers an extensive and challenging curriculum in the performing and studio arts, fostering the acquisition of skill and creativity in each discipline. Whether a student enjoys theatre or chorus, orchestra or music theory, sculpture or painting, there are ample opportunities for exploration and depth of study. The use of appropriate technological resources as a tool to enhance knowledge is encouraged.

Unique Programs or Strengths of School

Gender Specific Education

Webb's campus is home to two unique schools: Webb School of California for boys, and Vivian Webb School for girls. We know that boys and girls learn differently at different stages, especially in the ninth and tenth grades. The curriculum reflects these differences during the first two years at Webb, where the core classes are single-sex. Gradually, students take more and more coeducational courses until by the junior year, all classes across all disciplines are coeducational. Each school has its own student government, assembly meetings and honor cabinet, but the campus is entirely coeducational; looking into the dining hall or student center, a visitor will see boys and girls engaged in conversation and laughter. Throughout there is a palpable sense of respect and admiration for each other.

Paleontology

Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology, the only accredited paleontology museum on a high school campus in the country, is a remarkable part of the Webb experience. Nationally recognized for its extensive collection, including several dinosaur skeletons and the world's largest compilation of fossilized footprints, the Alf Museum provides students with the opportunity for discovery both on-campus and out in the field. Students can choose to volunteer at the Museum, take courses in Paleontology or Museum Studies, or enjoy paleontology trips to places as close as Barstow, CA and as far away as Mongolia. Webb's hands-on approach to learning is realized and supported in the Museum; in fact, over 95% of its collection was discovered by Webb students and faculty.
